bigp,

Could you log onto the server LCS 2003 HS is installed and do the following?
Assume you log on as the domain administrator

1. Start -> Run -> wbemtest
2. Click "Connect" and type in "root\cimv2" and click "Connect"
3. Click "Enum Instance..." and type in "MSFT_SIPESGlobalRegistrarSetting"
and click OK.

Do you get back any instances? Do you see any error?

Interesting. bigp, can you use the same wbemtest and do the same steps
except the last one:

click "Enum Classes...", then directly click "OK" (without typing anything
in "Enter superclass name" edit box)

It should return the list of WMI classes in cimv2 namespace. Can you scroll
down and do you see MSFT_SIPESGlobalRegistrarSetting there?

Seems the installation had some problem mofcomp'ing the class. bigp, could
you try to reinstall the server, if possible, and take a look if now the

The issue has been resolved.

It turned out the step PREP=ENTERPRISE were performed twice in a multile-DC
environment, therefore resulting in 2 instances of
MSFT_SIPESGlobalRegistrarSetting, which is supposed to be a singleton
instance class. This caused LCS service fail to start. Once the duplicated
instance of the class was deleted and all replications among DCs were done,
setup went through.

I'm having the 1920 error in question, but not the same problem I guess. I
have the string you asked about (only one instance) and I only get one error
in the system log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7024
Date: 11/3/2004
Time: 3:25:04 PM
User: N/A
Computer: LANEVEN4
Description:
The Live Communications IM Archiving Service service terminated with
service-specific error 4294967295 (0xFFFFFFFF).

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I have checked and rechecked the accounts and groups mentioned here and
other threads containing 'error 1920'. I'm at a loss as to what else I could
check to determine what the cause is. One last bit of info... i've tried on
a couple of other servers as well and they all give me the same error.
Thanks in advance,
JAFO

MSFT_SIPESGlobalRegistrarSetting, which is supposed to be a singleton
instance class. This caused LCS service fail to start. Once the duplicated
instance of the class was deleted and all replications among DCs were done,
setup went through.

Hi Jin,
Thanks again for the prompt reply. Unfortunately, I cannot reinstall
this server because it's a live server. I sent you the logs under

Seems the installation had some problem mofcomp'ing the class. bigp, could
you try to reinstall the server, if possible, and take a look if now the
class appears or not. If still not, could you goto
%windir%\system32\wbem\logs\ and send me (to my email) all the logs in that
directory?

Interesting. bigp, can you use the same wbemtest and do the same steps
click "Enum Classes...", then directly click "OK" (without typing anything
in "Enter superclass name" edit box)
It should return the list of WMI classes in cimv2 namespace. Can you scroll
down and do you see MSFT_SIPESGlobalRegistrarSetting there?

The issue has been resolved.
It turned out the step PREP=ENTERPRISE were performed twice in a multile-DC
environment, therefore resulting in 2 instances of
MSFT_SIPESGlobalRegistrarSetting, which is supposed to be a singleton
instance class. This caused LCS service fail to start. Once the duplicated
instance of the class was deleted and all replications among DCs were done,
setup went through.

More specifically, I get the 1920 Error, and if I run the WBEMTEST at that
point which I receive the error message, then I have the
MSFT_SPIPESGlobalRegistrarSetting.

If I do the same thing while the installer either is not running, or has
rolled back the installation, then the setting is not present.

Roger,

I remember you were trying to install LCS 2003, and in the middle it popped
up some error, once you clicked OK, the setup rolled back, right? (Saw you
post in livecomm.developer newsgroup). Seems your problem is slightly
different from bigp's since his/her installation went through w/o problems.
It's just service couldn't start.

Please check the original thread in livecommon.developer. I just post a
message there. Thanks!

Not to step on Jim's toes...you should still do what he mentions.

I had two similar problems in testing. One was casused by the service
account not having local Admin rights. Once I granted it local admin rights
it was good to go. Actually I think I stuck it in the
RTCDomainServerAdmins(group name) group and that group was in the
Administrators group from the install.

The other was caused by the service account password having expired...and I
was trying to install a second server.
